1. Solar cells collect energy from the sun.
2. Inverters convert solar energy into standard electricity
3. Batteries store the electricity
4. Servers are powered from the electricity

Power is generated using 120 solar panels located on two large sets of arrays (1), one on each side of the data center. The solar panel arrays face due south, which generates the most possible amount of electricity. The power from the solar panels is DC, which is converted to AC through sunny boy inverters (2). After it is converted using the inverters, it is stored in the battery bank (3), which will be replaced soon with a more efficient option, (more information coming soon). It then leaves the battery bank and runs throughout the data center, including the air conditioners (4). In case of an emergency there is a backup generator but it is not necessary.

How is this Possible?

Little Web Feet servers are housed in a data centre that was designed and built specifically to be 100% solar powered, and therefore designed and built to be way more energy efficient than your average data centre, or even your average building. From the start, the data centre was designed using the latest green design techniques and built to use the lowest amount of energy possible. No other data centre could do this without starting from scratch and redesigning the building, the lighting, the heating/cooling system, and buying new servers.
